Let It Bloom

  • Art Scene Art Gallery Gouraud Beirut, Beirut Governorate Lebanon (map)

FATIMA AL HOUSSEINI

In the wake of a paradigmatic shift in her life, the artist's latest exhibition, "Let it Bloom," represents a vivid journey from Beirut’s dense urbanity to the serene expanses of Bekaa. This body of work, created during a year of deep introspection and unbridled creativity, is an evocative celebration of renewal and freedom.

At the heart of the exhibition lies a transformation—both personal and artistic. Relocating to Bekaa, after a longstanding reluctance, opened a space for the artist to reconnect with her roots and embrace the liberating quietude of her surroundings. Inspired by the rustic appeal of the village and the enveloping calm, her canvases burst forth with vibrant colors and dynamic forms, marking a departure from the cacophony of city life to the harmonious rhythms of nature.

Employing a rich palette of acrylics, oils, and pastels, the artworks in “Let it Bloom” are a dialogue between the constructed and the natural, as well as the past and the present. Through a neo-expressionist lens, urban motifs blend seamlessly with bucolic landscapes, creating experiences that reflect the artist's inner transformation. The silhouettes of city dwellers, once prominent and bustling, now blend subtly into the background, giving way to nature’s powerful, rejuvenating energies.

The artist's process, which is exploratory and intuitive, reflects the organic growth patterns of the natural world. Collage elements and mixed media techniques symbolize the reconstruction of identity and place, where the unconscious mind surfaces freely, later to be refined and understood. Each piece is more than a simple visual representation; rather it’s a fragment of the artist's journey towards overcoming fear and finding expression without constraint.

"Don’t wait for someone to bring you flowers. Plant your own garden and decorate your own soul”, by Luther Burbank is a proverb that has lingered with the artist and which she believes captures the essence of her work.

"Let it Bloom" is not merely an exhibition but a narrative of rebirth. It invites viewers to traverse the emotional landscapes of solitude and renewal, encouraging them to let go of their confines and enjoy the beauty of unrestricted expression. In this space, we witness the blossoming of a soul that has found its fertile ground.
