"When The Earth Dreams": Capturing the beauty of Lebanon on canvas
Until June 6th at the Art Scene gallery, painter Effa Mseileb presents "When the Earth Dreams," a series of canvases born out of urgency, at the height of the war. In them, the artist explores the beauty of Lebanon's natural landscapes, which the turmoil threatens to erase.
Originally from the Bekaa Valley, the artist began this series a year ago, as war broke out just a few kilometers from her home, near Hadath. It began with a few musical notes: the poetic and romantic ones of Wadih El Safi. They inspired a first triptych in pastel colors, as if a need for tenderness and gentleness in the face of the initial turmoil of the conflict.
In his later works, the colors become more intense, the brushstrokes more vibrant, and the composition more disordered. The canvases openly delve into abstraction. Here, nature is not serene but agitated, more luminous as well, and each of his paintings features large touches of yellow.
