Workshop Series | Exploring Mixed Media

A hands-on workshop series designed for creatives of all levels. Participants will experiment with layering, materials, and composition in a supportive studio setting.

Our Exploring Mixed Media workshop series invites artists, designers, hobbyists, and curious beginners to step beyond the boundaries of a single medium and discover the expressive power of combining materials. Whether you are refining your artistic voice or just beginning your creative journey, this immersive program offers the space, tools, and guidance to expand your practice with confidence.

What You’ll Experience

Over the course of the series, participants will engage in guided studio sessions that emphasize experimentation, process, and discovery. Each workshop introduces new techniques while encouraging personal interpretation and exploration.

Participants will:

  • Experiment with layering techniques, including collage, acrylic washes, texture pastes, ink applications, and found materials

  • Explore material combinations such as paper, fabric, natural elements, paint, charcoal, and mixed surfaces

  • Develop a deeper understanding of composition, balance, contrast, and visual storytelling

  • Learn how to build depth and texture through transparent and opaque layering

  • Discover methods for integrating unexpected elements into cohesive works

The focus is not only on technique, but also on creative freedom. This series encourages risk-taking, intuitive decision-making, and playful exploration within a supportive environment.

Studio Environment

Workshops are held in our gallery’s studio space, designed to foster collaboration and creative energy. Participants work alongside one another in an atmosphere that values curiosity over perfection and process over outcome.

Our instructors provide:

  • Demonstrations and live technique breakdowns

  • Individual feedback and constructive critique

  • Creative prompts to spark inspiration

  • Support in developing a personal concept or series

Artists are encouraged to share ideas, discuss challenges, and celebrate breakthroughs together. The environment is welcoming, inclusive, and designed to nurture artistic growth.

Who Should Attend

This series is ideal for:

  • Beginners seeking structured guidance

  • Intermediate artists looking to expand their material vocabulary

  • Experienced creatives interested in loosening their practice and experimenting freely

  • Designers and makers exploring cross-disciplinary approaches

No prior experience in mixed media is required. All skill levels are welcome.

Materials & Preparation

Basic materials will be provided, including surfaces, paints, adhesives, and select mixed media tools. Participants are also encouraged to bring personal items—such as photographs, fabric scraps, old sketches, or small found objects—to incorporate into their work and make each piece uniquely personal.

Outcome

By the end of the series, participants will complete one or more original mixed media works and leave with a stronger understanding of material interaction, layering strategies, and composition principles. More importantly, they will gain renewed creative confidence and a broadened artistic perspective.
