What Does Portraiture Represent? An Exhibition in Beirut Featuring Forty Artists
Under the title Eye Contact, The Portrait Exhibition (1894–2024), the Art Scene Gallery presents a group exhibition bringing together works by more than forty artists. The unifying thread across all the exhibited pieces as the title itself suggests centers on portraiture.
The works on display vary in scale, ranging from small to medium and large formats, and are executed using diverse techniques. They are produced by Lebanese and Arab artists spanning different generations and artistic orientations. Notably, some of the participating artists have since passed away, leaving behind a significant legacy and an established place within the history of Lebanese visual art.
In this sense, the exhibition not only offers a survey of stylistic and technical diversity within portraiture, but also implicitly traces a historical continuum, where living practices intersect with the enduring contributions of earlier generations
