Houmam AL-Sayed
Houmam Al Sayed (b. 1981, Damascus) is a contemporary Syrian artist who studied sculpture before focusing on large-scale figurative painting. A graduate of the Institute of Applied Arts in Damascus, he began exhibiting at a young age and has shown his work across Syria, the Arab world, and Europe.
His work centers on a recurring distorted male figure, marked by exaggerated features and a stooped posture, symbolizing oppression and societal pressure in the Middle East.
Through painting, drawing, and sculpture, Al Sayed explores themes of identity, authority, and human suffering, portraying anonymous figures that reflect the struggles of individuals under political and social constraints.
