Jamil Molaed

Jamil Molaeb (born 1948 in Baissour, Lebanon) is a prominent Lebanese artist known for blending intellectual depth with mystical sensibility. Trained under Chafic Abboud and Paul Guiragossian, he began his career in the 1970s and later earned degrees from Pratt Institute and Ohio State University. His diverse body of work—ranging from abstract compositions to folkloric village scenes—draws inspiration from the Druze cabalistic tradition, ancient civilizations, and Western art history.

Molaeb’s paintings often reimagine color fields as landscapes, where symbols evolve into architectural forms and cultural archetypes. His expressive woodcuts and vibrant canvases reflect both classical techniques and modernist influences. With a long international exhibition history and works held in major collections, he continues to teach, create, and exhibit, including at his own Jamil Molaeb Museum in Baissour.
