Ali Abboud (SMOXTER)
Ali Abboud (Lebanon, b.1992) is a Lebanese contemporary artist who earned a bachelor’s degree in interior architecture and a master’s in fine arts in 2018 from the Lebanese University. He has embraced both traditional and digital painting and has been an active graffiti artist since 2009.
Abboud's art merges surrealism and expressionism to provoke thought rather than emotion. His work is imbued with hidden satire that challenges what is commonly taken for granted as set truth. His paintings stand out for their emphasis on secondary components, particularly the reoccurring motif of the fish. Abboud's experimental use of color palettes and his emphasis on contrast further define his unique style. He is interested in pixel art, which he views stemming from pointillism. Motivated by this connection, he uses pixel art as a bridge between traditional and digital art mediums, furthering his investigation into visual expression.
Abboud has participated in several collective exhibitions, including two with the Artists Syndicate and one at the Lebanese Fine Arts Salon.
