Al Sharq Al Aawsat, “OVERSIZED”, Riyad Ne’mah

The exhibition “Oversized” by Iraqi artist Riyad Ne’mah was born from a fleeting moment with his son, when the child wore a jacket that was too big for him and laughed, saying: “It doesn’t look like me!”

However, this passing moment did not quickly leave the artist’s mind. Instead, it sparked questions about childhood being burdened with what it cannot bear, about politics and authority, and about a reality imposed on people from the outside one that always seems larger than their own size… not resembling them, and not allowing them to be themselves.
