Abdul Karim Majdal Al Beik

Abdulkarim Majdal Al-Beik is a Syrian artist known for large-scale mixed-media works using materials like charcoal, plaster, ash, and burlap to mimic weathered urban surfaces. His “combine paintings” draw inspiration from graffiti, cracks, and decaying facades, reflecting the passage of time and the hidden histories of cities.

Following the Syrian war, his practice evolved to include assemblage with found objects such as fabric, crosses, and weapons, expressing the harsh realities of conflict. He also expanded into conceptual sculptures, installations, and photography, notably in his Postponed Democracy (2014) series.

Born in 1973 near Al-Hasakah, he studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus and has exhibited widely across the Middle East and Europe. His works are held in major collections, and he has received awards including the Latakia Biennale and Shabab Ayyam competition.
