Abdullah Murad

Abdullah Murad is a Syrian artist and pioneer of Arab abstract expressionism, known for layering styles, brushstrokes, and mixed media to create dynamic compositions. Influenced by Arabesque rhythms, Fauvist color, and Abstract Expressionism, his work emphasizes spontaneous, dance-like expression.

Born in Homs in 1944, he studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University, graduating in 1970. While he has explored portraits, landscapes, and sculpture, his focus remains on abstract improvisation to convey his inner world.

His technique plays with balance and imbalance through varied textures, from thick paint to translucent layers, often incorporating collage elements. Murad’s works are widely exhibited and held in major collections, including the Sharjah Museum, National Museum of Damascus, and Dalloul Art Foundation.
